

Drama Lecturer - SQA Experienced | BA (Hons) Qualified
Location: Out of the Darkness Theatre Company, Elgin
Contract Type: Permanent, Term-Time Only
Hours: 22.5 hours per week, 46 weeks per year
Salary: £22,230 (actual salary based on 46 weeks worked, Full-time equivalent: £41,833 per annum, paid in 12 equal monthly instalments)

Due to expanding provision, we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Drama Lecturer to join our creative team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a thriving performing arts department, delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences to students across various levels.
About us
Out of the Darkness Theatre Company (ODTC) is a long‑established professional theatre organisation based in Elgin, founded in 1992. As a registered charity, we specialise in inclusive creative practice, empowering adults with learning disabilities through high‑quality theatre training and performance. Our work focuses on developing confidence, communication, teamwork, and artistic skill within a supportive and vibrant creative community.

We are proud to also work in close partnership with UHI Moray, where ODTC directly delivers the university’s Performing and Creative Arts programmes. This unique collaboration allows students to learn within a live professional theatre environment, gaining hands‑on experience in acting, production, and creative industry practice.
Students benefit from real‑world learning opportunities such as participating in full scale theatre productions and film projects, and engaging with industry professionals through workshops and masterclasses throughout the year. Our partnership is designed to prepare learners for successful creative careers while building strong transferable skills.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver engaging and inclusive drama lessons aligned with SQA standards at FE & HE level.

Support students in practical and theoretical aspects of performance.

Contribute to curriculum and course development, assessment planning and preparing.

Quality and Standards;

To participate in the moderation of students’ work.

To participate in course monitoring and review.

To participate in course evaluation.

Foster a collaborative and creative classroom environment.

Participate in departmental productions, workshops, and events.
Essential Criteria
-
BA (Hons) in Drama, Theatre Studies, or a closely related discipline.

Proven experience teaching within the SQA framework.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

To understand and apply different learning, delivery and assessment methods utilising a variety of media
-
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications

Good interpersonal and team working skills

Experience in directing student performances and managing productions.

Desirable

PGDE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Previous teaching/training experience

Familiarity with digital tools for teaching and performance.
